>THE PICALOULOU STORY
After the birth of my son in 2009, followed by two incredibly cold and snowy winters, I grew increasingly frustrated by the poor choice of knitwear on offer for my children, so I took the plunge to set up Picaloulou. (Incase you are wondering, 'picaloulou' was a pet name I had for my daughter, that's her in the picture above, when she was tiny.) Driven by intuition, creativity and passion, I set out to produce stylish but understated knitwear that was beautifully made from soft, natural British yarns.
I have tried to design with busy children in mind, so the styles are functional as well as non-scratchy, but I have experimented with colours that are not traditionally used for children’s clothes. I also have tried to go beyond trends, with classic styles that can be worn time and time again regardless of fashions. All our garments are generously sized so that you get at least two years of wear out of them. Our cardigans are made so that buttons can be reversed for girls and boys. What is more, I have insisted that all our styles are ethically produced in the UK.
Establishing Picaloulou has been a huge learning curve, but lot's of fun. I am very grateful for the help, patience and encouragement from so many wonderful people including my amazing pattern makers, talented knitters, my patient husband and my accommodating family. The business is a very personal company - it feels human to me, and I hope you will feel it too.
We hope you enjoy shopping at Picaloulou. It is enormously satisfying, running the company and I still get a thrill when I open parcels from my knitters, and I still press and attach the Picaloulou labels, tags and buttons by hand myself to ensure every piece is perfectly made and presented. Please do let us have your feedback so we can improve what we offer - you can email me direct at email@example.com. We're also active on our Facebook page, our Blog and Twitter @picaloulou- so do say hello to us there.
